The SUSRUD project partners organized an international field visit in Lyon, France, from 16 to 21 November 2025, bringing together participants from France, Portugal, Bulgaria and Türkiye. The program combined site visits, expert presentations, and interactive discussions to explore biomass energy solutions, with a particular focus on biogas systems. Participants visited several biogas plants operating under different models, engaged directly with project managers, local authorities, and farmers, and gained first-hand insights into how renewable energy projects are developed and implemented in rural contexts.
In addition to technical visits, the program included workshops on sustainable strategic development and opportunities to reflect on both successful and challenging cases. Participants learned about the importance of cooperation between public and private stakeholders, the socio-economic impact of energy transition in rural areas, and the practical barriers such as technical, financial, and community-related challenges. The visit offered a comprehensive learning experience, emphasizing the value of integrated energy approaches and knowledge exchange for fostering sustainable rural development.
Beyond the technical and strategic aspects, the field visit also created a valuable space for intercultural exchange and peer learning among participants. Informal discussions, group reflections, and shared experiences throughout the week strengthened collaboration and mutual understanding among partners. This exchange not only enriched the learning process but also contributed to building a strong network for future cooperation within the SUSRUD project.
