Supporting local energy production is at the heart of the SUSRUD project and remains a key priority for the European Union. In its 2018 Special Report, “Renewable energy for sustainable rural development,” the European Court of Auditors highlighted the strong potential of renewable energy in rural areas, while also noting that this potential is still largely underused. Despite being published a few years ago, the report is still highly relevant today. It outlines practical measures to better connect renewable energy with rural development. Aligned with this vision, our SUSRUD project focuses on promoting biomass energy as a local, sustainable solution for rural communities.
