Turning Waste into Energy: A Successful Biogas Model from RURENER

As part of a learning visit organized by RURENER, we had the opportunity to explore an inspiring biogas initiative in Mont du Lyonnais, France

A few years ago, this project began with a dozen farmers who wanted to recycle their waste and joined forces with the local authority to develop a local biogas digester unit, an ideal solution for securing the supply of materials and the balance, since the local authority provides food waste and sludge from wastewater treatment plants. The gas will be injected directly into the grid. They also have developed a bioGNV recharging station (based on the principle of guarantees of origin), which supplies the fleet of buses and transporters passing through the area, as well as a number of private individuals.

The visit provided valuable insights into local circular economy solutions, and we look forward to continuing the exchange of ideas and best practices during our upcoming learning trips.
